So not to long ago I had a really awesome experience in my life. I got to hang out and jam with one of my biggest inspirations, G.Love. Alright, so here is how it all went down…
The band and I just finished up a great outdoor gig in Red Bank. I knew that G.love was coming to town, through a good friend and amazing artist Jay Alders. He was playing in an hour at a cool little theater in Manasquan. I remember driving there and being so hungry that I need to stop at a Windmill for some real American food (4th of July weekend)! I was trying not to be late for the show, so I ate on the way. Turns out that’s not the best thing to do, I was driving with my knee, slamming down a cheeseburger and got pulled over because I was swerving, hahahha. Once the cop realized that I was not drunk and just hungry, he laughed and let me go.
I finally got to the show and it was packed! G.Love sold it out!! He played solo, but it was fucking amazing! Garrett kills it solo!! Everyone was making all kinds of noise, singing, and dancing, it was awesome to see and be apart of.
After the show I met up with my good friends, Jay Alders and his lovely girlfriend, Chelsea. Jay is an amazing surf artist and an amazing person. I hung around them for a little while, went back inside to find a huge line of people getting all kinds of stuff signed by Garrett. I waited in line, not for a signature but to hand him my new CD, Speak. I handed him the CD and he was really cool about it. Complemented me on the artwork, and handed it over to his tour manager. I talked to the tour manager for a little while, handed him my card, and then went to find Jay and Chelsea to hang out.
Jay is a good friend with G.Love, so he came over and asked if we all wanted to hang out and party on the tour bus. You can only imagine how stoked I was at this point. I get on the bus and it was hooked up!! TV’s, couches, tile floor, frig, kitchen, it was awesome! We all hung out and listened to some music for a while. Garrett was jamming some WuTang, and I was jamming some GangStarr. Next thing I know, G has his guitar out ready to jam. I had mine in my car, so I asked him if I should grab it. He said yea, lets jam!
We jammed for a while, I was making up new words, chords, and melodies, and he did the same thing, just feeding off of each other. At this point I was so happy to be able to jam with my biggest inspiration. No seriously, BIGGEST INSPIRATION.
I left that tour bus that night with the biggest smile on my face. You better believe that this will not be the last time G and I get together to make some music.
Thanks for listening,
Much Love,
