NEW SONGS

So… I have been doing this really awesome workshop in New York City run by the company BMI.  I think I have mentioned this workshop in one of my past blogs, but I wanted to talk a little about what I am getting out of the class.

What is cool about this workshop, is that everyone attending it comes from all different musical backgrounds.  Some are artist that play out on a regular basis, some are budding producers, and some are just songwriters that write for other artists.  It is great that we can all come together and share our ideas and learn from the masters of the songwriting craft.  Each week we have a new assignment to writing about a specific subject using different techniques. This has been a good experience, because I have had the chance to write some really dope songs that I am stoked on!

The first week we had an assignment to write a song about some one you used to see all the time and now you don’t.  I decided to take a different  approach on this and create a “coming of age” story.  I wrote a song about old friends that used to be in my life a lot more then they are now.  I wrote about old times that we had together and about how back then we had no worries.  We were reckless and we felt like the world was in the palm of our hands.  The song is called, “Free From it All”.  The style is way different then what I am used to writing. It is an up-tempo finger picking style song, ironiqually   kind of like Mumford and Sons.  I am really proud of what I came up with and I can’t wait to show you all.  Look out for a video of me playing it soon on my channel!             That was  not the only song I have come up with.   I have about 4 other songs being prepared to start being played live.  One is called, “Her Body”,  it has a sort of a Latino influence. I fell that it is very upbeat, super rhythmic, and a lot of fun to play. Two are reggae songs but  both are very different sounds.  One is in a minor key that talks about being a broke artist, and the other is a very positive song that talks about the people in my life that have influenced me and brought good into my life and the world.  The last one is a song that I have been working on for a very long time. This has a very hip-hop and soul feel. The verses are very rhythmic and “rappy”, while the chorus opens up with a big and soulful vocal melody.

Come see the band and I live soon and you will hear some of these songs! Check us out November 12th, this Saturday at The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ. It’s always a good time with the Reason Why!

Cheers!
